The Subject
Richard J. McNally Jr. was an English teacher, freelance photographer, and intellectual who kept journals from 1962 through 2001. He operated ARMAC Photographics and left behind both handwritten notebooks and digital journals recovered from vintage hard drives.
The Project
The ARMAC Annals is an ongoing archival effort to photograph, transcribe, and publish his complete journals — preserving a private literary record that spans nearly four decades of American life.
Current Status
Analog volume in active transcription — approximately 600 handwritten pages across six notebooks, 1962 through the mid-1970s
Digital volume in recovery — journals from 1993–2001 on vintage IDE hard drives
First entries forthcoming
This archive is under active construction. The first published entries will appear here as transcription is completed. Inquiries regarding institutional partnership or preservation assistance are welcome.
